As temperature drops, it’s time to prepare your RV for winter. Your water tanks, water lines, and water heaters are all at risk when temperatures hit below freezing, so make sure you are prepared so your camping adventures don’t get delayed. Winterizing your RV ensures that all your plumbing is protected and operating well for all your future camping seasons!
Tools Needed for Winterizing Your RV
- RV Antifreeze
- Water Heater Bypass Kit (If not already installed on your RV)
- Water Pump Converter Kit
- Wrench or Screwdriver
1. Drain and Clean Your Water System
To ensure sitting water doesn’t freeze, expand, or burst your pipes, make sure to drain your entire system.
- Turn off water heaters and pumps. Let your water heater cool completely before draining.
- Drain the freshwater tank. Open the low-point drains and let water flow out.
- Empty the gray and black tanks. Thoroughly flush the black tank to avoid odors.
- Drain the water heater. Remove the plug or anode rod. Make sure that your hot water heater is completely cooled before doing this step.
2. Add Antifreeze
After your tanks are completely empty, you can now go in with your antifreeze.
